About the project
Juantons, a wordplay on "wonton," is a Chinolatino frozen food and catering company located in Kensington, Brooklyn. For its branding, I aimed to capture the authentic and beautifully kitschy aesthetic of Chinolatino culture.
Inspired by Chinatown staple restaurants like La Dinastia, the brand incorporates elements of traditional takeout menus and boxes to create a recognizable yet fresh identity. The fret pattern typically associated with Chinese takeout was transformed into a ‘JT’ monogram in an inconspicuous and cheeky way. Additionally, the introduction of Juanton, our character inspired by Botero's famous sculptures, adds a playful nod to the Latino heritage of Chinolatino cuisine.
To further enhance the brand, we introduced the three languages that surround Chinolatino culture: Spanish, Chinese, and English. This multilingual approach ensures that, even with simple graphics, the brand maintains an authentic tone.
